Redefining online presence: Scanning Pens’ Digital Revamp

Based in UK and Founded in 2003 by tech enthusiasts Toby Sutton and Jack Churchill, Scanning Pens set up to accomplish a noble mission: to empower individuals within the neurodivergent community to read confidently.

As a company that prides on the assistive technology they offer, Scanning Pens needed an online presence that represented such awareness in the tech field to reflect a more current image for their brand.

Our challenge at AOTT was to achieve an online store that properly conveyed the innovative spirit that motivated the creation of the devices they sell today.

At the time, we needed a team that would confidently deliver such a custom endeavour on top of SuiteCommerce. So, we opted for one of our implementaiton partners, Broken Rubik.

Broken Rubik’s Dev Team was instrumental to the project, by building the foundations that represented the first iteration of the advanced functionality required, allowing AOTT to fully focus on Client Management and internal ramp-up.

On a second Wrap-up phase, AOTT’s team fully took over the enhancement and finishing touches for the final product we are releasing now.

Here’s how we went about it and what the project brought in for Scanning Pens.

The Process

We followed a design driven approach, to take down what’s needed into ClickUp for a project plan, to later deploy and assess within NetSuite’s SuiteCommerce what had been delivered.

Scanning Pens arrived at us with a clear design concept and vision.

Their Design Team was aiming for a final product that would resonate with their audience and bring Scanning Pens online presence to a more up to date look and feel.

We worked from a finished idea, and worked from there to adapt to what’s functionally supported by NetSuite’s SuiteCommerce Advanced.

This collaborative approach allowed us to align our development efforts with Scanning Pens vision and after further perfecting we were ready to bring their digital transformation to life.

The Team’s Effort

AOTT was in charge of articulating the communication between Scanning Pens and Broken Rubik’s Dev Team.

We established weekly check-in’s and made sure communication was fluent through a single referent for the client to evacuate questions, capture new requirements and stay on top of budget.

The project naturally divided into two phases:

  1. Phase 1 — Build up: AOTT in charge of project management and client facing endeavours, while Broken Rubik provided their invaluable technical expertise on everything NetSuite’s SuiteCommerce.

  2. Phase 2 — Wrap-up: AOTT providing a dedicated Development team, and joining forces with Scanning Pens’ Dev Team for finishing touches and additional custom functionality.

Across every phase, we managed to keep our mind focus towards the common goal of achieving a final product that better represents what Scanning Pens is currently.

And so we did.

The migration from SiteBuilder to SuiteCommerce Advanced represented a pivotal moment in Scanning Pens’ digital evolution.

From August 2023 to April 2024, our combined efforts yielded a sleek, modern interface that not only reflects Scanning Pens’ commitment to innovation but also provides enhanced functionality for their clientele.

Key highlights of the project include:

  1. Aesthetic Overhaul: We revamped Scanning Pens online presence, shedding the outdated facade of their previous website. The new design radiates sophistication and professionalism, aligning perfectly with their tech-forward brand image.

  2. Streamlined Content Management: Leveraging a combination of NetSuite’s Custom Records and SuiteCommerce Advanced SMT capabilities, we empowered Scanning Pens with full control over their website content. From product updates to blog posts, they now have the flexibility to tailor their digital narrative with ease.

  3. Interactive Tools: To enhance user engagement and facilitate informed decision-making, we incorporated a range of interactive features. Tailored forms cater to specific segments of Scanning Pens audience, while a dynamic quiz assists buyers in selecting the perfect assistive pen for their needs.

  4. Human-Centric Approach: Beyond the technological enhancements, the website encapsulates the essence of Scanning Pens mission. Aiming for personalized user experiences, we crafted a storefront that highlights the human element behind the brand. Every interaction has been thought to echo Scanning Pens commitment to supporting individuals with neurodiversity.

Conclusion

Working with Scanning Pens yielded a transformative digital experience that elevates their brand identity and encapsulates the human-centric ethos at the core of their mission.

The redesign has been positively welcomed internally, which speaks volumes about the impact of this AOTT + Scanning Pens collaboration.

We are immensely grateful for the trust Scanning Pens has placed in us by allowing us to be part of their digital revamp and looking forward to the next challenges to overcome together.
